Mark your calendars folks, the phenomenal Salem Film Fest  is just around the corner! (March 1st -March 8th)  Now in it’s fifth year, the Salem Film Fest has quickly grown into one of the nation’s leading all-documentary film events, showcasing a rich and diverse selection of non-fiction works from around the world. Last year, we loved the diversity of films, including the fantastic Bill Cunningham’s New York, Echotone, and Steam of Life, so we can’t wait to see what we discover this year.

Festivities kick off Thursday, March 1, with a VIP reception at the National Park Service Visitor Center on Essex Street (5:30pm – 6:45pm, wine and hors d’oerves will be served), followed by the opening night screening of All Me: The Life and Times of Winfred Rembert at the Peabody Essex Museum’s Morse Auditorium (7pm). In total, 35 fantastic films will screen throughout the week. We’re particularly intrigued by the Battle for Brooklyn, Bury the Hatchet, Gerhard Richter Painting, Unfinished Spaces,  and so many more.   Filmmakers will be present at many of the screenings to introduce, examine and discuss their films. You can even mingle with them at after-parties at Pickering Wharf restaurants Finz (Friday, March 2, 9:30pm) and Victoria Station (Saturday, March 3, 9:30pm) or at the filmmaker breakfast (Sunday, March 4, Caffe Graziani, 9-11:30am).

This really is a great event. So, “Come to Salem.  See the World”. And while you’re at it, take a walk and check out Salem’s great shops, restaurants, and museums. It’s a great semiURBAN spot!
